Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Farewell Sermon

This sermon was delivered by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat' (in Mecca).

After praising, and thanking Allah he said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib (Prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived...

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people".

The first ten days of Dhul-hijjah

The following was made available by Ustadh Amin Buxton (Allah preserve and increase him):

We are about to enter the blessed month of Dhu`l-Hijjah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that there are no days in which righteous actions are more beloved to Allah than the first ten days of this month.[1] For that reason some scholars have ruled that these days are better than the final ten days of Ramadan, although the nights of Ramadan are superior to these nights. Allah Himself swears by “the Ten Nights” in Surat al-Fajr, which is sufficient evidence of their greatness. Most of the scholars say that these are the first ten nights (and days) of Dhu’l-Hijjah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that fasting one of these days is equal to the reward of fasting for a whole year and standing in one of these nights in prayer is equal to standing in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr.[2] It has also been narrated that the reward for actions in these days is multiplied seven hundred times.

This is not to mention the Day of Arafat (the 9^th of Dhu’l-Hijja) which is the greatest day of the year. Fasting that day wipes out the sins of the previous year and the year to come. We will mention more about this day closer to the time inshallah.

If we are unable to fast the first nine days of the month we should at least fast the Day of Arafat. If we are able to fast two or three days then by fasting Monday or Thursday or both we will gain the reward of following the Sunnah. Likewise by fasting three of these days we will have performed the Sunnah of fasting three days in every month.

These are days in which we should remember Allah abundantly. Allah says that they remember the name of Allah on well-known days.[3] These “well-known days” according to the majority of scholars are the ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. This is why the Prophet said (peace and blessings be upon him) that in these days we should make abundant tahlil (saying la ilaha ill’Allah), takbir (saying Allahu akbar) and tahmid (saying alhamdulillah).[4] Ibn `Umar and Abu Hurayra would go into the marketplace in these days and raise their voices with the takbir. The people in the marketplace would then raise their voices with the takbir in response.[5] Thus the most hated place to Allah, a place where most people are heedless of Him, was filled with His remembrance.

Whether it be prayer, fasting, charity, dhikr, seeking knowledge, helping people, any righteous actions we do will be greatly rewarded and beyond that are beloved to Allah. This is also a time when du’a is answered by Allah.

As winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere we recall that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that winter is like spring for a believer: the night is long so he is able to stand in prayer in it, and the day is short so he is able to fast during it.[6] Just as the animals find good pasture with the coming of springtime, likewise in winter the believer finds it easy to perform acts of obedience and to pluck the fruits that Allah has made easily available.

These are days when people are converging in their hundreds of thousands to visit the House of Allah and to visit His beloved Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and there is nothing to stop anyone who cannot be physically with them from trying to draw close to Him and seeking the closeness of His Messenger. Allah tells us that He is with us and remembers us when we remember Him, and whenever we send greetings to the Beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) he receives them and returns them.

Attached should be some of the adhkar that many of the pious people would read during the first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah.

A person knocked on the door and gave his salaam.

‘May I come in?’ he asked.

But Fatimah did not allow him to enter the room.

‘I’m sorry, my father is ill,’ said Fatimah, turning back and closing the door behind her.

She went back to her father who had opened his eyes.

‘Who was he, my daughter?’ He asked his beloved daughter

‘I don’t know, father. It’s the first time I’m seeing him,’ Fatimah said gently.

Then, Rasulullah (SAW) looked at his daughter with a trembled look, as if he wanted to reminisce about every part of his daughter’s face.

‘Know one thing! He is who erases the temporary pleasure; he is who separates the companionship in these world.

He is the angel of death,’ said Rasulullah (SAW).

Fatimah bore the bomb of her cry.

The angel of death came towards him, but Rasulullah (SAW) asked why Jibril did not come along with him. Then, Jibril was called.

Jibril was ready in the sky to welcome the soul of Habibullah and the leader of the earth.

‘O Jibril, explain to me about my rights in front of ALLAH?’ Rasulullah (SAW) asked with a weak voice.’

The doors of the sky have opened; the angels are waiting for your soul.’ ‘All jannats are open widely waiting for you,’ Jibril said.

But, in fact, all that did not make Rasulullah (SAW) relieved. His eyes were still full of worry.

‘You are not happy to hear this news?’ asked Jibril.

‘Tell me about the destiny of my people in the future?’

‘Don’t worry, o Rasul ALLAH. I heard ALLAH told me: ‘I make jannat haram for everyone, except until the people of Muhammad have entered’ Jibril said.

It became closer and closer, the time for Malaekat Izrail to do his work.

Slowly, Rasulullah’s (SAW) soul was pulled. It seemed that the body of Rasulullah (SAW) was full of sweat; the nerves of his neck became tight.

‘Jibril, how pain is this sakaratul maut!!’

Rasulullah (SAW) uttered a groan slowly.

Fatimah closed her eyes, Ali sat beside her and Jibril turned his face back as Rasulullah groaned…

‘Am I repugnant to you that you turn your back to face me, yaa Jibril?’ Rasulullah (SAW) asked the Deliverer of Wahyu.

‘Who is the one who could bear to see you, ya Habiburrahman, in his sakaratul maut,’ Jibril said.

Not for a while, Rasulullah (SAW) uttered a groan because of unbearable pain.

‘O ALLAH, how great is this sakaratul maut.. Give me all the pains of the sakratul maut of my people, Ya Allah, give them all to me, and not to them..!’

The body of Rasulullah (SAW) became cold, his feet and chest stopped moving. His lips vibrated as if he wanted to say something. Ali brough his ear closer to Rasulullah (SAW).

‘Uushiikum bis’ salati, wa maa malakat aimanuku.. Take care of your solah and take care of the weak among you.’

Outside the room, there were cries and wailings amongst each other, the sahabaa held each other, in tears…

Fatimah covered her face with her hands and, again, Ali took his ear close to Rasulullah’s (SAW) mouth which had became bluish..

‘Ummatii, ummatii, ummatii!!’ ‘My people, my people, my people.’

And the life of the noble man ended.

Could we love each other like him?

From Abdullah bin 'Amr ra, Rasulullah saw said:
"Deliver my advise even if it is a verse ..."

Ramadan is the month that sent a thousand blessings by Allah for man to multiply his good deeds. Apart from the obligation to fast during the day, the Prophet also organized so that we can do tarawih prayers during the night of Ramadan.

As stated by the Prophet in his saying that
means:

From Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: 'Whoever
that prayer and faith and the calculation of Ramadan
God forgive him his previous sins.

Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim. In saying that other means:

"Allah has already ordained fast of Ramadan, and I have stood on the night to do the sunnah (tarawih prayer), because in hoping for Allah of God by doing fasting during the day and prayer (prayer tarawih) at night, he is safe from his from his sins as if he was born by his mother.

For those who perform the prayer tarawih during Ramadan nights are promised great reward by Allah. Ali bin Abi Talib Radiallahu Anhu asked the Prophet, then he said 'those who believe that prayer tarawih during Ramadan will have the following advantages:

First night
The sins are gone as if he was just born from his mother.

The second night
His sins forgiven, as well as sins of the parents if both are the believers.

The third night
Called by the angels of the Throne with the appeal 'you start work because God has forgiven your sins of the past'.

Fourth night
The same reward as those who read the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms and the Quran.

The fifth night
Reward as those who pray at Masjid al Haram in Mecca, the Prophet's Mosque in Medina Masjid al-Aqsa in Palestine.

Sixth Night
As reward those who compass around Baitullah. The rocks and sand is asking forgiveness for him.

Seventh Night
As the person lived at the time of Moses, and helping to defeat the Pharaoh and Haman.

Eighth Night
Given by Allah that everything was given to Abraham.

Ninth Night
It is like the reward of the Prophet Muhammad saw worshiping towards Allah.

The tenth night
Allah gives hin the good in the world and the hereafter.

Eleventh night
Clean from all sin as a newborn from the mother's womb.

Twelfth Night
The face is full of light on the Day of Judgement.

Night of the thirteenth
Come on the Day of Judgement in a safe manner from the terms of evil.

Night of the fourteenth
Witnessed by the angels, if a person has done the tarawih prayer. Allah will free from all harm on the Day of Resurrection.

Night of the fifteenth
Asked for forgiveness by the angels who bear the Throne and chairs.

Night of the sixteenth
Released from the fire and to enter heaven.

Night of the seventeenth
Be rewarded like the reward of the prophets.

Night of the eighteenth
Urged by the angels that Allah has pleased you and to your parents.

Night of the nineteenth
Raised the rank in the paradise of Firdaus.

Night of the twentieth
Given the reward of the Syuhada and Solihin.

Night of twenty-one
Built his house from the light in heaven.

Night of the twenty-two
On the Day of Resurrection it will come in peace from all the hardships and trials.

Twenty-third night
There will be a city for him in the heaven.

Twenty-fourth night
Rewarded as twenty-four requests had been granted.

Twenty-fifth night
Removed from grave punishment.

Twenty-six nights
Reward are taken for forty years.

The twenty-seventh night
Cross the Sirat where the speed is like lightning.

The twenty-eight night
God raised up to a thousand degrees.

Twenty-nine nights
As a reward like a thousand mabrur pilgrims.

Thirty-first night
Invited by Allah to eat the fruit of heaven and bath with Salsabil water and drink from the well of Kausar.

Great benefits to our God for us every day in case of fasting in Ramadan, RECEIVED by ALLAH.

Indeed, we fast with great piety (ie, fear) of Allah will be rewarded with an invaluable ... Insyaallah!

But if we fast with no fear of God, feared that our fasting will be futile . Nau'zubillah.

May we be categorised as the successful people insyaallah. :)

Beautiful Description of the Prophet (SAW)

Muhammad, peace be upon him, was a shy, reticent man who lived among his people with such high moral character they called him al-Amîn - the Trustworthy.

The Prophet’s unique physical appearance, his high character and willingness to sacrifice for others, are often at the essence of any description of him. According to the narrations from his Companions he can be described in the following words:

Muhammad was imposing and majestic. His face was luminous like a full moon.

He was taller than medium but not excessive in height. He had wavy hair, which he parted and it never went beyond his shoulders. He was light-skinned with a high brow. He had full eyebrows and a small space between them. His beard was full, his eyes black. His physique was supple and lithe, with a full chest and broad shoulders. When he walked, he was determined and his pace was as if he was walking down hill.

He was decisive and whole-hearted in everything he did, so intent on the task at hand that he never looked over his shoulder, even if his cloak got caught in a thorny bush.

When he spoke he was always brief and reflective. He spoke when he saw benefit and spent long periods in silent contemplation. His speech was comprehensive being neither wordy nor abrupt. He had a mild temperament and was never harsh nor cruel, coarse nor rude. He expressed gratitude for everything given to him no matter how insignificant. When he spoke, his companions lowered their heads as if birds were perched upon them. When he was silent, they felt free to speak. He never criticized food or praised it excessively. He never swore, nor did he find fault in people. He did not flatter people but praised them when appropriate.

When he did turn to speak to somebody, he used to swing his entire body around and address them full face. When he shook hands, he was never the first to withdraw his own.

People entered his gatherings as seekers and left enlightened. He would ask about his companions when they were absent often making inquiries about people’s needs. He never stood nor sat without mentioning the name of God. He never reserved a special place for himself in a gathering and sat where space was provided. He gave each of those who sat with him such full attention that everyone felt that he was the most important person in that gathering. Voices were never raised in his presence. The aged were respected for their age and the young were shown compassion for their youth.

His wives and Companions spoke of his humour and cheerfulness. He said once, “I joke but always tell the truth.”

His wife Aisha said, “he was always making us laugh in the house.” One of his names is ad-dahhak - the smiling one.

Once an old woman asked him if she would enter paradise and he replied, “Old people don’t go to heaven!” The woman was crestfallen with the answer he had provided, to which he added with a smile, “You shall enter paradise in the prime of your youth.”

And once a gruff desert Bedouin came into the mosque and prayed out loud saying, “O God forgive me and Muhammad and don’t forgive anyone else.” Hearing this the Prophet laughed and said to him, “You are limiting the vast mercy of God.”

He died on the same day he was born, in the same house he had lived in for ten years in Medina, on a small bed made of leather stuffed with palm fibres, in the arms of his beloved wife Aishah.

His dying words were, “Treat your women well, and do not oppress your servants, the prayer, the prayer, don’t be neglectful of the prayer. O God, my highest companion, O highest companion.”

Muhammad exemplifies the strong and profound relationship that each human being ought to have with his Creator, his fellow human beings, and the world around him. May Almighty God and His angels and all His creation bless him and greet him with the salutations of peace!

The carpenter

A highly skilled carpenter who had grown old was ready to retire. He told his employer of his plans to leave the house building business.He wanted to live a more leisurely life with his family.

He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire.The employer was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favour.The carpenter agreed to this proposal but made sure that this would be his last project.

Being in a mood to retire, the carpenter was not paying much attention to building this house. His heart was not in his work.He resorted to poor workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the job was done, the carpenter called his employer and showed him the house. The employer handed over some papers and the front door key to the carpenter and said "This is your house, my gift to you."

The carpenter was in a shock! What a shame!If he had only known that he was building his own house, he would have made it better than any other house that he ever built!

Our situation can be compared to this carpenter. Allah SWT has sent us to this world to build our homes in paradise by obeying His commands.Now we have to decide how well we wish to build the homes where we will live forever.

A young girl who loved Allah.

There was a young girl;
Who loved Allah.
She didn’t know why;
But she knew how much.

She talked to Him when she was lonely;
Knowing He was the one and only.
Why, she wondered, do people fight?
When everyone know what’s wrong and right?

Why do those who should love each other;
Lie and manipulate their sister and brother?
She thought of Allah as her best friend;
And knew He’d listen right till the end.

She wanted to please Him and do what’s right;
and be surrounded by His light.
But as this bud grew into a flower;
She realized people too have power.

Power to cloud your way of thinking;
And soon she felt her faith (iman) sinking!
Although on the outside she went along;
Inside of her was still so strong.

She knew Allah was just waiting;
For the right time for her awakening.
Alhamdulillah, the love for Him was always there;
Although it was in need of some repair.

She thanked Allah from the bottom of her heart;
Who is the Teacher who gave her a new start.

The story of a pencil and an eraser

PENCIL
I’m sorry.

ERASER
For what? You didn’t do anything wrong.

PENCIL
I’m sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you’re always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.

ERASER
That’s true. But I don’t really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I’ll be gone and you’ll replace me with a new one, I’m actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.

LESSON: Parents are like the eraser whereas their children are the pencil. They’re always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way, they get hurt, and become smaller / older, and eventually pass on. Though their children will eventually find someone new (spouse), but parents are still happy with what they do for their children, and will always hate seeing their precious ones worrying, or sad….However our parents are getting smaller and smaller each day…One day, all that we would be left with will be eraser shavings and memories of what we used to have.

Allah, Most Wise admonishes us: “Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: My Lord! Bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.” (Quran-17:23)

1) Give Allah what’s right, not what’s left.

2) Man’s way leads to a hopeless end. Allah’s way leads to an endless hope.

3) A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.

4) He who kneels before Allah can stand before anyone.

5) In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma, but never let him be the full stop.

6) Don’t put a question mark where Allah puts a full stop.

7) Are you wrinkled with burdens? Come to the mosque for a face lift.

8) When praying, don’t give Allah instructions, just report for duty.

9) Don’t wait for six strong men to take you to the mosque (for your janaazah)

10) We don’t change Allah’s message. His message changes us.

11) The mosque is prayer-conditioned.

12) When Allah ordains, He sustains.

13) Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.

14) Most people want to serve Allah, but only in an advisory position.

15) Suffering from truth decay? Brush up on your Qur’an.

16) Exercise daily. Walk with Allah.

17) Never give the devil a ride. He will always want to drive.

18) Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it.

19) Compassion is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.

20) He, who angers you, controls you.

21) Worry is the darkroom in which negatives are developed.

22) Give Shaytaan an inch, and he will be a ruler.

23) Allah doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.

24) Read the Qur’an. It will show you how simple life can be.

Focus on yourself

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "O you who have entered Islam with your tongues but whose hearts faith has not entered: do not slander people, and do not ferret out people's shameful points. Whoever searches out the shameful points of his brother, Allah will search out his shameful points, and if Allah searches out a person's shameful points, be sure that He will disgrace him even if he should remain in the middle of his house." [Abu Dawud]

This hadith teaches us a number of things:

1. It points to the difference between being a Muslim and being a Momin. A person who has embraced Islam but not reformed his heart and inner self through it, is called a Muslim but not a Momin.

2. One characteristic that differentiates a Muslim from a Momin is that a Muslim may be on the look out for people's hidden flaws and shameful secrets: but a Momin would never waste his or her time in such a disgraceful activity. This is because a Momin knows that in the Final Reckoning they will be asked about their own faults and not those of others.

3. The punishment for someone who tries to find flaws in others is that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will surely disgrace them by making their shameful deeds public. These may be things we considered done and hidden forever. But if Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) chooses to disgrace somebody, there is nowhere they can hide to escape the wretchedness of disgrace.

We waste so much time looking for and discussing the faults of others. Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) says, "That is a nation which has already passed away: there awaits it whatever it has earned, while you will have what you have earned. You will not be questioned about what they have been doing." [Quran 2:141]

Focus on that which is your foremost responsibility and in your control. Yourself!

So that Allah and people love me

Sahl bin Sad As-Sai’di (radi Allahu anhu) reported: “A man came to the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, guide me to such an action which if I do Allah will love me and the people will also love me.’ He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, ‘Have no desire for this world, Allah will love you; and have no desire for what people possess, people will love you.’” [Ibn Majah. Al-Albani classified this hadith as authentic.]

To “have no desire for what people possess” means to not be envious of others. When a person is not envious of what others have, they feel safe with him/her and like him/her.

To “have no desire for this world” means to remember that our real home and time for enjoyment are in Jannah. When a person has mansions and palaces in one city will he desire to stay in a cramped, dirty, motel room in some other city? On earth we are only taking an exam, which we would like to have end as soon as possible, so we can go to our mansions and palaces where delicious food and a life of enjoyment and relaxation awaits us.

As long as we live we are in an examination hall. Till we die we are taking the exam of life that will qualify us for either Jannah or Jahannum. Some academic exams take place in 5 star hotels, and some take place in village school rooms. He, whose exam is in a 5 star hotel, is in comfortable conditions but cannot afford to forget that he is there to take an exam. If he begins to enjoy himself in the hotel, roaming around and entertaining himself, he will fail his exam.

Let us welcome Ramadhan Al Mubarak by improving ourselves in the moth of Sya'ban

The month of Ramadaan is the best month of the year, because Allaah has chosen it to make fasting this month obligatory and the fourth pillar of Islam and He has prescribed for the Muslims to spend its nights in prayer, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam is built on five (pillars): testimony that there is no god but Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, establishing prayer, paying zakaah, fasting Ramadaan and performing pilgrimage to the House (Ka’bah).”Agreed upon.

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spend the nights of Ramadaan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Agreed upon. I do not know of any specific way of welcoming Ramadaan, but the Muslim should welcome it with joy and happiness and thanking Allaah for enabling him to reach Ramadaan, for He has caused him to be among the living who compete in doing righteous deeds.

Reaching Ramadaan is a great blessing from Allaah. Hence the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to give his companions the glad tidings of the arrival of Ramadaan and explain its virtues, and the great reward that Allaah has prepared for those who fast and who spend the night in prayer. It is prescribed for the Muslim to welcome this blessed month with sincere repentance and preparations to fast and pray qiyaam, with a sound intention and sincere resolve. End quote.

Etiquette of the seeker of knowledge

Praise be to Allaah.

There is a certain amount of etiquette for seeking knowledge which the seeker of knowledge should follow. We will give you this advice and this etiquette for seeking knowledge; may Allaah cause you to benefit thereby.

1 – Patience

My dear brother, seeking knowledge is one of the highest of pursuits, and heights cannot be scaled except by working hard and stribing. Abu Tamaam said, addressing himself:

“Let me scale the heights that cannot be scaled, for reaching high things is difficult whilst reaching low things is easy.

You want to scale the heights without any effort, but honey cannot be gathered without beestings.”

Another poet said:

“You seek to attain glory, and those who seek to attain glory

Strive their utmost and roll up their sleeves for that purpose.

They strive hard but most of them become tired.

But those who have patience and perseverance attain the heights of the glory that they desired.

Do not think that attaining glory is as easy as eating dates;

You cannot attain glory until you swallow the bitterest medicine.”

So be patient and persevere. If jihaad requires an hour of patience, then the seeker of knowledge must be patient until the end of his life. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning)

“O you who believe! Endure and be more patient (than your enemy), and guard your territory by stationing army units permanently at the places from where the enemy can attack you, and fear Allâh, so that you may be successful.”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:200]

2 – Purity of intention in action

Adhere to purity of intention in what you do. Let your aim be to seek the Face of Allaah (i.e., the pleasure of Allaah) and the Home of the Hereafter. Beware of showing off and the love of making oneself appear to be superior to one’s peers. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever seeks knowledge in order to compete with the scholars or to prove himself superior to the ignorant or to make the people look up to him, Allaah will cause him to enter Hell.” (narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 2654; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i).

To sum up, you have to be pure both outwardly and inwardly from every major and minor sin.

3 – Acting upon what you know

Know that acting upon what you know is the fruit of knowledge. Whoever knows but does not act upon his knowledge is like the Jews whom Allaah likened to the ugliest things in His Book, when He said (interpretation of the meaning):

“The likeness of those who were entrusted with the (obligation of the) Tawraat (Torah) (i.e. to obey its commandments and to practise its laws), but who subsequently failed in those (obligations), is as the likeness of a donkey which carries huge burdens of books (but understands nothing from them). How bad is the example of people who deny the Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allaah. And Allaah guides not the people who are Zaalimoon (polytheists, wrongdoers, disbelievers)”

[al-Jumu’ah 62:5]

And whoever acts without knowledge is like the Christians, who are the “daalleen (those who have gone astray)” mentioned in Soorat al-Faatihah. With regard to the books which you should study, they are mentioned in Question # 20191; please refer to this Question as it is important.

4 – Always being aware that Allaah is watching

You must always be aware that Allaah is watching you, in secret and in the open. Your attitude towards your Lord must always be balanced between fear and hope, which for the Muslims are like the two wings of a bird. Turn to Allaah wholeheartedly and let your heart be filled with love for Him, your tongue with remembrance of Him (dhikr). Be happy and rejoice in His rulings and His wisdom.

Always call upon Allaah (du’aa’) in every sujood, asking Him to bless you and grant you beneficial knowledge, for if you are sincere towards Allaah, He will support you and help you, and will cause you to attain the level of the righteous scholars.

5 – Make the best use of time

Make the most of your youth and your whole life by learning. Do not be deceived by procrastination and wishful thinking about the future. Every hour of your life that passes cannot be replaced. Do away with whatever you can of distractions and obstacles which prevent you from striving your utmost to attain knowledge. Hence the salaf encouraged keeping away from one’s family and keeping a distance from one’s homeland, because when a person is distracted he will not be able to understand facts of knowledge and subtle issues. Allaah has not given man two hearts in his chest, and similarly it is said that knowledge will not give you a part of it until you give it your all.

6 – Be cautious

Beware of being preoccupied in the beginning with the disputes among the scholars, or among people in general, because this confuses the mind. Also beware of musannafaat , because they will waste your time and make you confused. Instead, give your all to the book which you are reading or the topic which you are studying until you become competent in it. Beware of moving from one book to another (before completing the former), for that is a sign of boredom and failure. You must pay attention to each branch of knowledge, in order of importance.

7 – Precision and focus

Strive to verify that which you want to memorize so that you are certain of it, either from a shaykh or from someone else who can help you. Then memorize it properly and continually repeat it and review at specific times each day, lest you forget what you have memorized.

8 – Studying books

After you have memorized the summarized books properly, with their commentaries, and you have understood any difficult passages in them and understood the important points, then move on to studying the detailed versions, always reviewing what you have learned and noting the valuable points, subtle issues, strange minor issues, solutions to problems and differences between similar rulings, in all branches of knowledge. Do not think little of anything useful that you learn or any basic principle that you understand; instead, hasten to note and memorize it.

Let your concern to seek knowledge be uppermost; do not be content to learn only a little when you are able to do more. Do not be content with a little of the legacy of the Prophets (may the blessings of Allaah be upon them), and do not delay learning anything that you can, or be distracted or put off by wishful thinking. Delay is a problem, and if you learn something now you can learn something else later.

Make the most of your time, when you are free and when you are busy. Make the most of your youth when your mind is fresh and you have less distractions, before you become distracted by false ambitions and the desire for worldly possessions.

You should try to obtain as many of the books you need as you can, because they are the tools of learning. Do not make getting and keeping a lot of them (without benefiting from them) the only share of knowledge that you have, and collecting them the only share of understanding that you have. You also have to use and benefit from them as much as you can.

9 – Choosing companions

Strive to choose righteous friends who are preoccupied with seeking knowledge and are of a good nature, who can help you in achieving your aim, add to the benefits you have already gained, encourage you to seek more knowledge and stop you from feeling bored and tired; friends who are religiously-committed, trustworthy and of good character, who are sincere towards Allaah and who are not merely messing about. (See Tadhkirat al-Saami’ by Ibn Jamaa’aah).

Beware of the bad companion, for he may influence you and people are like birds, they will resemble one another [i.e., “birds of a feather flock together”]. So beware of mixing with people like that, for that is a sickness, and prevention is better than cure.

10 – Finally, good manners towards the shaykh

Knowledge cannot be gained only from books; you must also have a shaykh whom you trust to open the door to knowledge and keep you from making mistakes. So you must have good manners towards him, for this is the way to success, learning and strength. So you must honour, respect and be polite to the shaykh. Observe the utmost standards of etiquette when you sit with your shaykh and speak with him. Ask questions in a proper manner and listen attentively. Be polite when studying the book with him and do not try to argue with him or compete with him. Do not initiate conversation with him or walk ahead of him or speak too much in his presence, or interrupt him or interrupt him when he is teaching. Do not pressurize him to give you an answer, and avoid asking him too many questions, especially in front of other people, for this will make you appear to be showing off and make him bored with you. Do not call him directly by his name or nickname; rather say “O my shaykh” or “O our shaykh” (Yaa shaykhi or Yaa shaykhunaa)

We ask Allaah to make you and us strong and steadfast, and to let us see the day when you will become one of the scholars of the Muslims and an authority in the religion of Allaah and one of the imaams of the pious. Ameen, ameen.. We hope to meet soon, and peace be upon you.

The love for Surah Al-Ikhlas

Anas (radi Allahu anhu) mentioned that a man said to the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), "I really love this surah." The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) replied, "And your love for it will enable you to enter Paradise." [Tirmidhi]

A person's love for Surah Ikhlas symbolizes his/her love of Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) and His uniqueness. This surah affirms Allah's Oneness, and shows the true understanding of the Mighty Creator, who neither shares His power with anybody nor stands in need of anything.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (radi Allahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said about Surah Ikhlas, "By Him in Whose hand my soul is, it is equal to one third of the Quran!" [Sahih Bukhari]

Sometimes, it's the simple things, the things we often take for granted that matter so much. Many of us have been taught Surah Al-Ikhlas from a very young age. Alhamdulillah. Let's dua for the person who taught it to us. -Sis Muslihah.

Divine GPS Istikhaarah

It is called the Du’aa’ of Istikhaarah, which the Prophet taught to his Companions. It is narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari that Jaabir (radhiAllahu anhu) said,

The Prophet used to sit and teach us the (Supplication of) Istikhaarah [and he advised us to say it] regarding all of our matters & affairs. And he would teach us this Du’aa’, like he would teach us the Surahs of the Qur`aan.)

Here are a few things to note:

Istikhaarah, is an Arabic word which linguistically means, seeking (counsel, guidance for) what is good, what is best. Hence, you’ll find that the Du’aa’ begins with the words: اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ – “O Allah, I am doing Istikhaarah to You” – I am seeking Your guidance/counsel, as to what is going to be best for me.

بِعِلْمِكَ ”…by Your (infinite) knowledge.” – The reason I’m asking You to guide me, to direct me, to what is best for me — is because of Your infinite knowledge.

Later on, in the Du’aa’, it says: اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنتَ تَعْلَمُ, أَنَّ هَاذَا الأَمْرَ – “O Allah! If You know that this matter…” and here, the Prophet told the Companions that, ‘You should mention your matter, whatever it is.’ It could be about marriage, a job, a family issue, or whatever. Basically, if you say this Du`aa of Istikhaarah before making any decision, then Allah will guide you in that matter.

This will be like your “Divine GPS” :)

خَيْرٌ لِي, فِي دِيْنِي, وَمَعَاشِي, وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي – “…is going to be good for me, in relation to my Deen, and in relation to my worldly life (and livelihood), and also in relation to my Hereafter”

And the rest of the Du`aa` goes on. Then (O Allah), decree it for me, make it easy for me & bless me in it. And if, in Your knowledge (O Allah), You know that this ‘matter’ is gonna be bad for me, either in my Deen, or in my worldly life, or in my Hereafter, then take it away from me & me away from it. And decree what is best for me, wherever it may be. And then make me pleased with it.

The above was just an overview of some of the meanings of this Du`aa. I’ll just leave it at that and let you discover some of the other meanings on your own. As for the actual Du`aa` in its entirety, with the translation, and some comments of how and when a person should say it, read the following:

Once again, the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallaam) taught us to say the following du’aa’, when we’re about to make any decision:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ
وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ, وأَسْـأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ العَظِيم.ي
فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ, وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ, وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الغَيُوب.ي
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَاذَا الأَمْرَ — خَيْرٌ لِي فِي دِينِي
وَمَعَاشِي, وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي, فَاقْدِرْهُ لِي, وَيَسِّرْهُ لِي, ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيه.ي
وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَاذَا الأَمْرَ, شَرٌّ لِي فِي دِينِي, وَمَعَاشِي
وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي, فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي, وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنهُ, وَاقْدِرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيثُ كاَنَ, ثُمَّ رَضِّنِي بِه.ث

“O Allah! I seek Your guidance for that which is good, because of Your infinite knowledge, and Your ultimate power. And I ask You from Your great bounty. Certainly, You are able and I am not. You have (infinite) knowledge and I do not. You are the Knower of the hidden (past, present and future).

O Allah, if You know that this matter (then you name your matter) is good for me, in my deen, in my life, and in my Hereafter, then make it possible for me, and make it easy (smooth) for me, and then bless me in it. And if You know that this matter is going to be bad for me, in my deen, in my life, and in my Hereafter, then take it away from me, and take me away from it. And (O Allah) take me to that which is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it.”

The Sunnah (what the Prophet taught his Companions) is that you first pray 2 normal Rak’ahs (units of Prayer). Then after you finish the 2 Rak’ahs, you raise your hands up and say this Du’aa’ sincerely and earnestly.

Some ’scholars’ say that, after you make this du’aa’ you will have a dream indicating to you what is best, but the fact of the matter is that this has no proof and it’s just an opinion. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) never told the Companions when he taught them this Du’aa that they would see a dream afterward. Therefore, note that this is just an opinion by some scholars and is not necessarily accurate.

The correct understanding is this: you pray the 2 Rak’ah and make this Du’aa’ sincerely. Then wait for a while, and afterwards, the decision that you feel more inclined towards is the correct one.

So after making this du’aa’, go ahead and make the decision that you choose. Because you asked Allah to guide you to the best choice and hence, whatever choice you make now will be under Allah’s Guidance. If it is good for you, Allah will make it easy and smooth for you. If it is something bad, then Allah will take it away from you and you away from it, and give you something that will be better for you.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When a Muslim, or a believer, washes his face (in the course of Wudhu), every sin which he committed with his eyes, will be washed away from his face with water, or with the last drop of water; when he washes his hands, every sin which he committed by his hands will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water; and when he washes his feet, every sin his feet committed will be washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water; until he finally emerges cleansed of all his sins.” [Sahih Muslim]

This hadith informs us of the fantastic blessings of Wudhu. Wudhu is a means of purification of the body as well as of the soul. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in His mercy has made clearing ourselves of our sins as simple as washing off dirt. Wudhu removes minor sins, provided that these sins are not related to the rights of people. Sins which result from harming another person are only forgiven by either compensating the aggrieved, obtaining his or her forgiveness, or praying sincerely for him/her.

"Thank you" is not enough

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "He who does not thank people is unthankful to Allah." [Abu Dawud]

Although Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) is the ultimate Bestower of all the good we receive, yet He commands us to thank the immediate source of the good too, the person or people through whom Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) sent the good to us. The people to whom we are most obliged during our lives, are our parents. Regarding them Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says, "... show thanks to Me, and to your parents..." [Al-Quran 31:14]

One of the early Muslims said: "Ingratitude for a kindness is one of the enormities (major sins). Gratitude consists of reciprocating it or supplicating for the person." So, saying 'Thank you' is not enough. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in His mercy has guided us to an appropriate course of action to show gratitude. We should be genuinely grateful and if we are able to return the favour we should do so. Otherwise, or additionally, we should pray for the person who did the favour. You need no wealth to make dua for somebody, yet it fulfills your obligation of showing gratitude to the person who does you a good turn.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "He has (really) no faith who fulfills not his trust, and he has (really) no religion who fulfills not his promise." [Baihaqi]

Always keep your word. Each time you keep a commitment you are rewarded by Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) for obeying Him. If you mix a few drops of wine in a glass full of water, it spoils the whole glass of water and makes it unfit for consumption. Similarly, dishonesty in any sphere of your life permeates and corrupts your entire nature and eeman. When a person’s words carry no weight, it only reveals his/her treacherous nature.

If you promise to be somewhere, make sure you are there on time. If you promise to call somebody back, do so on time. Don't commit what you cannot do. One minute means 60 seconds everywhere, no more. Make a habit of under-committing rather than over-committing.

What is "Khushoo"?

“Khushoo’ in prayer happens when a person empties his heart for it (prayer), and focuses on it to the exlusion of all else, and prefers it to everything else. Only then does he find comfort and joy in it, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘… and my joy has been made in salaah.’” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 5/456. The hadeeth is in Musnad Ahmad, 3/128 and Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3124).

Allaah has mentioned al-khaashi’eena wa’l-khaashi’aat (men and women who are humble (before their Lord)), and described this quality as one of the qualities of those who are chosen. He tells us that He has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e., Paradise). [See al-Ahzaab 33:35].

Striving to gain that which gives and strengthens khushoo’

By repeating the words of the adhaan after the muezzin;

By pronouncing the du’aa’ to be recited after the adhaan: “Allaahummah Rabba haadhihi’l-da’wati’l-taammah wa’-salaati’l-qaa’imah, aati Muhammadan il-waseelata wa’l-fadeelah, wab’ath-hu’l-maqaam al-mahmood alladhi wa’adtah (O Allaah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer to be offered, grant Muhammad the privilege (of interceding) and also the eminence, and resurrect him to the praised position that You have promised)”;

Knowing that Allaah responds to prayers

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah, the Blessed and Exalted has said: ‘I have divided the prayer between Myself and My slave, into two halves, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.” When the slave says ‘Praise be to Allaah, Lord of the Worlds,’ Allaah says, ‘My slave has praised Me.’ When the slave says, ‘The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy,’ Allaah says, ‘My slave has extolled me.’ When the slave says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgement,’ Allaah says, ‘My slave has glorified me.’ When the slave says, ‘It is You alone we worship and it is You alone we ask for help,’ Allaah says, ‘This is between Me and My slave, and My slave shall have what he asked for.’ When the slave says, ‘Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those whom You have favoured, not the path of those who receive Your anger, nor of those who go astray,’ Allaah says, ‘All these are for My slave, and My slave shall have what he asked for.’” (Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab al-Salaah, Baab wujoob qiraa’at al-Faatihah fi kulli rak’ah). [Words in italics are the translation of the meaning of Soorat al-Faatihah – Translator].

Remembering death whilst praying

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Remember death in your prayer, for the man who remembers death during his prayer is bound to pray properly, and pray the prayer of a man who does not think that he will pray any other prayer.” (al-Silsilat al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 1421. It was reported from al-Suyooti that al-Haafiz ibn Hajar classed this hadeeth as hasan).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also advised Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him): “When you stand up to pray, pray a farewell prayer.” (Reported by Ahmad, 5/412; Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 742) – meaning the prayer of one who thinks that he will not pray another prayer. The person who is praying will no doubt die, and there is some prayer that will be his last prayer, so let him have khushoo’ in the prayer that he is doing, for he does not know whether this will be his last prayer.

We hope you are enjoying your first week of school! Curious about where to pray in school? Don't worry! Attached is information about all the musollahs in school. Do drop by the Cluster clubhouse. We are located right beside the smaller entrance of the clubhouse. You may borrow your praying materials there. Just remeber to put it back after use aiight!=D

There are mini Mussollahs set up around the campus in certain Schools such as LSCT, BA, ME , HMS , Sports Complex and also EE. The least we can do is to place the direction of the Qiblah.
Some of the places are equipped with the praying materials. Its recommended for you to bring your own praying material for the Muslimahs.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aalaa dishonour all those who stand in the way of Al-Ghurabaa' (The Strangers)

Ghurabaa is the depiction of the sahabat in the time of Rasullah SAW.They are being seen as strangers who go against the norm of following the majority`s belief.Their Imaan is so strong that they are the examplary Muslims.Being a Muslim is more than just a belief and a name. Being Muslim in the 21st centuryis getting very difficult. How modern and open society we are in, it seems that Islam is being seen as a strange trend. Thus Muslims are seen as the strangers once again. Isnt strange that to cover up becomes a crime in a society that claims to be multi cultural and open to all kind of people? We could not be as great as the Sahabat, but with us standing rooted to our belief insyallah:
Ghurabaa’ hakadzal ahraaru fii dunya-al ‘abiid
Ghurabaa’ this is how they are free in the enslaved world
Our faith keeps us on the right track of freedom of this Dunya which is fanaa.-Bro Hanafi

Tawakkul

‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattab reported that Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"If you were to put trust in Allah (Tawakkul) the way that Allah deserves, then you would be provided for as birds are; they leave (in search of food) at the beginning of the day famished, and return at the end of the day full"
[Shaykah Al-Abani’s Silsilat Al-Sahihah, # 310]

And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things.
[Surah Al-Talq, Verse 2-3]

Would that they were contented with what Allâh and His Messenger (peace be upon him) gave them and had said: "Allâh is Sufficient for us. Allâh will give us of His Bounty, and so will His Messenger (from alms, etc.). We implore Allâh (to enrich us)."
[Surah Al-Tawba, Verse 59]

Constantly worshiping Allah

Abu Hurayrah stated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
"Allah says, ‘O son of Adam! Take time out to constantly worship me, I will fill your chest with richness , and remove your poverty. And if you do not do so. I will make your hands filled with occupation, and will not remove your poverty”
[Shaykh Al-Albani declared it to authentic in his Sunan Al-Tirmidhi]

Ma’qal Ibn Yasaar reported that Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Your Lord, all glory and honor be to Him says, ‘O Son of Adam! Take the time out to constantly worship Me, I will fill your chest with richness! O Son of Adam! Do not distance yourself from Me, or I will fill your chest with poverty, and fill your hands with work ”
[Shaykah Al-Abani’s Silsilat Al-Sahihah, # 1359]

Making the Hereafter One’s main Concern

Once Zayd Bin Thabit wa with Marwan, the leader of the City, when he went to visit 'Abd Al-Rahman Ibn 'Uthman Bin 'Affan, Abd Al-Rahman said, "Nothing caused him to come here, at this hour except a question that he wants to ask." So he asked him (what the matter was). He replied, "He (meaning Marwan) asked us about matters that we heard the Prophet :saws: say". I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say "Whoever puts this world as his only (and primary) goal, them Allah will divide his affairs for him, and He will place poverty before his eyes, and nothing will come to him of this world except that which was already written (i.e. pre-destined) for him. But whoever made the Hereafter his goal, the Allah will gather his affairs for him, and he will place richness in his heart, and the world will come to him conquered and submissive"
[Al-Albani Silsila As-Saheehah, #950 ]

Everyday we whine about the most trivial and insignificant things. What we fail to realize is that while we may be hungry, some are dying of starvation. We may be cold but a child may be freezing to death. No matter what unpleasant state we are in, they will always be someone worse off. We often forget how fortunate and blessed we are. In our current state of affairs, we have come to know that failure is the opposite of success. One of the reasons Muslims fail, well one of the major reasons cited in the Glorious Qur'an al Kareem is `disputation amongst one another', which leads to failure. Also, one of the signs of the latter days, isthe amazement in ones own opinion (self opinionated people).

The essence of failure is summed up in the Qur'an as:

Disobeying Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala,
- Disobeying His Messenger sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, and,
- Disputation amongst each other.

For our current situation to be reversed, there are many methods, and ways to go about things. Obviously holding firmly to the Qur'an and the Sunnah is the first. But, there are elements that we need to implement in our lives that will bring to life the Islam that was lived not so long ago by our predecessors, InshaAllah.

Ten Qualities That Lead to Success:

1. Every successful person has a strong sense of purpose. What greater sense of purpose than to know that your goal is Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala.

2. Seek out role models or mentors. These mentors instill in them a sense of possibility. What better role model than Rasulullah sallallahu 'alaihi wa
sallam?

3. Strength of visualizing the goal. Rasulullah sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam had the strongest visualization of any human. We are people of `success' and this Deen is not a Religion of `failure', but a Religion of SUCCESS!

Michael Hart, the historian who wrote the 100 most influencial personalities in history, placed Muhammad sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam as number 1. The greatest witness is what your own enemies show witness to. Our example is the best example, for verily Rasulullah sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam was
`Uswatun Hasanah', the Best example; he is the model and mentor of success for all of mankind.

4. Positive sensory orientation. That you dwell on your successes, not dwelling on your failures. Remember your past successes when you were weak, and Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala will give you victory, look at Badr.

5. Self assurance. They know that they can succeed. `La tahinuu, wa laa tahzanuu wa antum la'nawla in kuntum mu'mineen' – `Do not be weak, and do not grieve, and you are the uppermost, if you are Believers'.
Our afflictions are expiations for us. Remember at `Uhud, Rasulullah sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam said: `Your dead are in the Hell fire, our dead are in
Jannah'.

6. They plan and organize. They know how to prioritize. Look at the most important things and take that. We have people now that argue over where you put your hands in the prayer, where your feet should be, etc.
These things are known in the books of Fiqh, we don't need to argue over them. You ask any scholar of any worth and they tell you very clearly. There's different ways to do it, because we're not supposed to get caught up in the trivial matters, because this is the Talmudic (Jewish) mind that asks `what kind of cow, what color cow' etc. All triviality.

Even in the West, they say that the `devil's in the details' (proverb). What's important is to ask `where's your heart?' Where is your heart in the Salaat?
People watching others pray during Salaat, finding mistakes with the Imaam etc. Where is our heart in the Salaat?
We plan to corrupt each other, organizations are successful, because they plan and organize each other. We are good planners when it comes to Walimah's. For instance, how many sheep will we have, how many belly dancers etc. Allahu Akbar, Takbeer, what type of takbeer? Takbeer of Salatul Janaazah, 4 of them!

7. The ability to acquire the necessary skills to succeed. We need to produce male and female scholars. Why don't we want to be from those people? The people of knowledge? Make your children people of Akhirah, not Dunya!

8. Patience. Be patient and enjoin others to patience. We have two lessons that Muslims have to learn, most of our tribulations are coming from: o Kibr, and, o Lack of patience.

Saying La ilaha Illallah does not make us special, because a Munafiq says La ilaha illallah, and yet they are lower than the Kaafir.
And remember that if you feel safe from Nifaaq, then according to Hasan al Basri rahimahullah, you are a Munafiq! The only one who feels safe from nifaaq is the munafiq.
`Umar ibn Khattaab radi'Allahu anhu went to Huthaifah ibn Yaman and asked him `Do you see in me what you see in them? Tell me by Allah, I want to know if `Umar is a Munafiq?' Huthaifah radi'Allahu anhu replied, `I don't see in you what I see in them'.

The qualities of a Munafiq (some of them include):
- They oscillate
- They remember Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala little,
- They say on their tongues what's not in their hearts,
- They pray lazily, etc and so forth.

9. Perseverance. Be persevering. No one will have except that what he endeavors for'.

10. To love what one is doing. Radi'Allahu `anhum wa Radu `anh' – `They love Allah, and Allah is pleased with them'.

Loving Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala and His Messenger! Spending what we love and giving from it freely. You don't reach righteousness (Birr) until you give out that which you love.
"When perfection is reached then it has to diminish, So once something is called perfect, expect it to perish."

There are different intrepretations of failure and success. But one thing is for sure, success does not comes easily. Whatever we do, whatever we seek we need to tawakkal. La Tahzan; don't be sad

Feeling down in the dumps, depressed, having the blues: these are just some of the terms used to describe a feeling of hopelessness and despair that can hit even the most optimistic of us at some point in our lives. While clinical depression requires proper professional treatment, the occasional feeling of sadness due to factors ranging from economic difficulty to harassment and discrimination can be helped through some simple spiritual practices. Here are a couple that can help:

1. Look at those below you

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whenever you see someone better than you in wealth, face or figure, you should look at someone who is inferior to you in these respects” (Bukhari, Muslim). If you are reading this article online, consider this: you are one of the lucky set of human beings on the planet who can afford a computer and internet connection or at least have access to one. The United Nations Development Program’s 2007 Human Development Report notes that there are still around 1 billion people living worldwide at the margins of survival on less than $1 a day, with 2.6 billion living on less than $2 a day. Also consider that in the Quran (14:7), God says that if you are thankful to Him for what you have, He blesses you with more.

2. Serve your fellow human beings

The best way to thank God is to serve humanity, especially those who have less than you. Serving others is uplifting and rewarding. It helps us gain a better perspective on life’s challenges, making us realize how very often, are problems seem so small compared to the awesome difficulties others face. That’s why when the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Muslims were a small, poor and persecuted community, they used to give to the poor even more. They understood that when you are generous when you have less, you achieve the perspective of a winner. You are focused on the bigger picture.

3. Read Surah Ad Duha

According to one report, after the Prophet had begun receiving revelation from God, at one point a long period of time passed with no such communication from Allah. As a result, the Makkans ridiculed the Prophet and he became severely depressed. That’s when this chapter was revealed (Quran 93: 1-11). The chapter is a beautiful reminder to us to see life in the greater scheme of things, to be grateful for what we have and to never give up striving for what is right. This chapter of the Quran can be considered a direct recipe from God for depression.

4. Turn to God in all situations

Remember that nothing can harm you without the consent of God. While you must take care of yourself, rely on God and know that He is always with you and only He can give you strength in difficult times. Also remember that He will help you can come out of a trying situation as a better person if you deal with it positively.

5. Remember God’s Names

God has many beautiful Names which describe His attributes and powers. These are reminders of His Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, Justice, Strength and much, more. Supplicating to God using these Names reminds us that God has these attributes more than any other being and that we can and must rely on Him during good and bad times.

6. Say ‘Hasbun Allahu wa Ni’ mal Wakeel‘;

This has been translated as “God suffices me and He is the best guardian.” It is an excellent way of reminding us that whatever worries we have or problems we face, God has the answer and cure to all of them and is the only One who can really do what is best for us.

7. Make sure when you leave home,

you read this Dua ‘In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.’ Bismillahe tawakkaltu alAllahe la haula wa la quwwata illa biAllah.

8. Take your spiritual break from the world,

five times a day Taking a break away from school, work or other life activities to spend a few minutes to remember God helps you reconnect with the Creator of the Universe, fortify your soul and strengthen your resolve to live a better life that is in tune with your faith and principles.

9. End your day on a good note

Shakespeare once wrote a play entitled “All’s well that ends well.” That’s good advice for dealing with depression too. End a day that may have been riddled with challenges and frustrations by making Wudu before going to bed, thinking of God and the Prophet and counting every blessings you have

10. Stop Shaytan in his tracks

Shaytan is the source of many of our negative emotions. It’s his job to make us feel pessimistic and to despair of any good in life. When you feel these feelings coming on, stop him dead in his tracks: say Aoutho billahi minash Shaytan ir Rajeem (I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan).

The price of Imaan

Several years ago an imaam moved to London. He often took the bus from his home to the downtown area. Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the same bus. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him twenty pence too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you better give the twenty pence back. It would be wrong to keep it. Then he thought, oh forget it, it’s only twenty pence. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company already gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a gift from Almighty Allah and keep quite. When his stop came, the Imaam paused momentarily at the door, then he handed the twenty pence back to the driver and said “Here, you gave me too much change.” The driver with a smile replied, Aren’t you the new Imaam in this area? I have been thinking lately about going to worship at your mosque. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. When the Imaam stepped off the bus, his knees became weak and soft. He had to grab the nearest light pole and held for support, and looked up to the heavens and cried, Oh Allah, I almost sold Islam for twenty pence! Remember, we may never see the impact our actions have on people. Sometimes we are the only knowledge of Quran someone will read, or the only Islam a non-Muslim will see. What we need to provide, Insha Allah is an example for others to see. Be careful and be honest everyday, because you never know who is watching your actions and judging you as a Muslim -Source Unknown

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja'altu sahla, wa 'anta taj-alul hazna idha shi'ta sahla
O Allah!
There is nothing easy except what You make easy, and You make the difficult easy if it be Your Will

اللَّهُمَّ الْطُفْ بِىْ فِىْ تَيْسِيْرِ كُلِّ عَسِيْرٍ فَاِنَّ تَيْسِيْرَ ; كُلِّ عَسِيْرٍ عَلَيْكَ يَسِيْرٌَ
Allahumma Tufiltuf bi fi taysiri kulli 'asirin, fainna taysirra kuuli 'asirin 'alaika yassirun

O Allah! I ask You for the understanding of the prophets and the memory of the messengers, and those nearest to You.

O Living! O One Through Whom All Subsists! O Lord of Musa, Harun, Nuh, Ibrahim, Isa, and Muhammad, honour me with good memory and understanding, Bestow me with wisdom, true knowledge and a firm intellect and mind with the blessing of Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace). O Lord of the Worlds.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِّسَانِي آمِراً بِذِكْرِكَ قِلْبِي بِخَاشِعَتِكَ
Allahumma ijal leesanee 'amiran bi thikrika wa qalbi bi khashyatika.

O Allah! Make my tongue full of Your remembrance, and my heart with consciousness of You.

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
Rabbi 'inni limaa 'anzalta 'ilayya min khairin-faqeer

O my Lord! I am indeed needy of whatever good You may send to me
[Surah Qassas; 28:24]
The above du'a was made whilst sayyidina Musa (alayhis salam) was traveling to the desert of Madyan, with no place of shelter. He made this du'a while resting under the shade of a tree, Subsequently, he was invited to stay with a man and his two daughters.

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
Rabb-ishrah ii sadri, wa yassir li 'amri, Wah-lul 'uqdatam-mil-li-saani, Yaf-qahuu qawlii

O my Lord! Expand me my breast; Ease my task for me; And remove the impediment from my speech, so they may understand what I say
[Surah Ta-Ha; 20:25-28]
A du'a that Musa (alayhis salam) made when proceeding to the court of Fir'awn (Pharoah) for the arguments (inviting him to Islam)

اَللَّهُمَّ اَصْلِحْ لِىْ دُنْيَاى الَّتِىَْ فِيْهَا مَعَاشِىْ وَ اَصْلِحْ لِىْ اخِرَتِىَ الَّتِىْ فِيْهَا مَعَادِىْ وَ اجْعَلِْ الْحَيوةَ زِيَادَةً لِّىْ فِىْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ وَّ اجْعَلِ الْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِىْ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ
Allahumm-aslih li diniyalladhi huwa ismatu amri, wa aslih li dunyaya-llati fiha ma'ashi, wa aslih li akhirati-llati fiha ma`adi, waj`alil-hayata ziyadatan li fi kulli khair, waj`alil-mauta rahatan li min kulli sharrin

O Allah! Set right my faith which is the safeguard of my affairs. And set right for me my worldy affairs wherein is my living. And set right for me my Hereafter on which depends my after-life. And make my life for me (a source) of abundance for every good and make my death a source of comfort for me protecting me against every evil

[Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to say (the above)]

اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى اَسْئَلُكَ الْفَوْزَ فِى الْقَضَآءِ
Allahumma inni as'alukal fauza fil qadaai'

O Allah! I ask You for success concerning my destiny

اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى اَسْئَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّه عَاجِله وَ اجِلِه مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَ مَا لَمْ اَعْلَمْ
Allahumma inni as'aluka min al khairi kullihi 'ajilihi wa ajilihi, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma lam a'alam

O Allah! I ask You for all the good which is in the present or in the future, which I know and which I do not know
[a comprehensive du'a taught to Aisha by the Prophet (saws)]

Du'as for anxiety/difficulty
اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَ الْحَزَنِ ، وَ الْعَجْزِ وَ الْكَسَلِ ، وَ الْبُخْلِ وَ الْجُبْنِ ، وَ ضَلَعِ الدِّيْنِ وَ غَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Allahumma inni a'udhubika minal hammi wal hazan, wal 'ajzi wal kasal, wal bukhli wal jubn, wa dhala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir rijaal

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and from being overpowered by men (other people)
[Sahih al-Bukhari 7:158]

اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي اُنْزِلُ بِكَ حَاجَتِىْ وَ اِنْ قَصُرَ رَابِىْ وَ ضُعْفَ عَمَلِى افْتَقَرْت ;ُ اِلى رَحمَتِكَ
Allahumma inni unzila bika haajati wa-in qasuura rubbi wa du'fa 'amali iftaqartu illa Rahmatika

O Allah! I ask You to answer my needs, though my intellect is weak, and my actions are defective, O Allah! I am in need of Your Mercy

Innaka 'ala ma-tasha'-u qadeer wa anta hasbeeya wa na'mal wakeel

O Allah! You do whatever You wish, and You are my Availer and Protector and the best of aid.

حَسْبِيَ اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
HasbiyAllahu wa ni'mal wakeel

Allah is my availer and protector and the best of aids.

رَبِّ اِنِّىْ مَغْلُوْبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ
Rabbi inni maghlubun fan-tass-ssir

O Allah! I am overpowered, so help me.
[surah al-Qamar, 54:10]
This was the du'a of sayyidna Nuh (alayhis salam) after 950 years of preaching to a stubborn people.

Du'as for Knowledge
اللَّهُم¡ اِنِّى اَسْئَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَجِيْحًا
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman-naaji'han

O Allah! I ask You for useful Knowledge

سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلاَّ مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ
Subhanaka la 'ilma lana 'illa ma 'allamtana 'innaka 'antal-'Alimul Hakim

Glory be to you, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise
[surah Baqarah; 2:32]

رَبِّ زدْنيِ عِلْماً وَ رْزُقْنيِ فَهْماً
Rabbi zidni 'ilman war zuqni fahman

O Allah! Advance me in Knowledge and true understanding

يَا عَلِيمُ عَلِّمْنِىْ
Ya Alimu, alimni

O All-Knowing, grant me knowledge

رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا

Rabbi zidni ilma

O my Lord! Advance me in Knowledge
[surah Ta-Ha; 20:114]

Du'as after studying
اَللَّهُمَّ ذَكِّرْنِِىْ مِنْهَ ، وَ عَلِّمْنِىْ مِنْهُ مَا جَهِلْتُ
Allahumma zakkirni minhu, wa 'alimni minhu ma jahiltu

O Allah! Assist me to remember it, and teach me whatever I am ignorant of it

Allahhumma inni astaodeeuka ma qara'tu wama hafaz-tu. Faradduhu 'allaya inda hagati elayhi

O Allah! I entrust You with what I have read and I have studied. (O Allah!) Bring it back to me when I am in need of it.

Du'as after studying
صلى الله على محمد وال محمد اللهم اني أسألك يا مدخر الخير وفاعله والآمر به ذكرني ما انسانيه الشيطان
SallAllahu 'ala Muhammad wa 'aali Muhammad. Allahumma inni as'aluka ya Mudhakkiral khayr wa faa'ilahu wal-aamimira bihi dhakirni ma ansaanihi-shaytan

Blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad and his progeny. O Allah! I ask You, The One who mentions goodness and actualizes it and commands it, Remind me of that which the shaytan makes me forget

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعَنِىْ بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِىْ وَ عَلِّمْنِىْ مَا يَنْفَعَنِىْ
Allahummanf'ani bima 'allamtani, wa 'allimni ma yaufa'uni

O Allah! Let the knowledge that You have granted me, be useful for me, and teach me whatever can be fruitful for me

رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Rabbana ta-qabbal minna 'innaka 'Antas-Sami-'ul-'Aliim

Our Rabb! accept from us. You indeed, You are the all-Hearing, the all-Knowing.
[Surah Baqarah, 2:127]

Du'as for those studying
ألله يْوَفِقْكم وِيْنَجِّحْكُم فِي قْرَايِتْكُم

May Allah grant you success in your studies

تَبَارَك الله عَلِيْك
Tabarak-Allah 'alayka

The blessing of Allah be upon you.

May Allah grant you every happiness and success in your academic endeavors, for you to fulfil your aspirations and achieve your goals. Ameen.

Study Tips:

Do the prayers at their correct times.
Pray a 2 rakat nafl prior to exam
Write " بِسْمِه تَعَاَلى " - In the Name of the Most High - (instead of Bismillah...) at the top of the page or cover.
Say بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ (In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind) - before commencing the exam - indeed before anything that you do.
Recite some du'as (like the ones listed above), and keep in constant dhikrullah (i.e. the daily dhikrs when waking, dressing, eating, sleeping, etc)
Come home and pray 2 rakat nafl after the exam for shukr (offer thanks to Allah) for granting you the strength and persistence and ability to complete the exam and accomplish goals inshaAllah
Increase in your reading and listening of the Qur'an and performing more ibadah (worship) (i.e. nafilah (voluntary) prayers and deeds). Keep away from bad actions and deeds - Follow up a bad deed with a good deed, to cancel it out.

Please keep me, my family, and loved ones in your duas. May Allah keep our intentions pure and grant us all success in this world and the Akhirah. Ameen.

Exam tips for students

The Muslim student puts his trust in Allah when facing the tests of this world, and he seeks His help whilst following the prescribed means, in accordance with the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “The strong believer is better and is more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive to attain that which will benefit you and seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless.” (Saheeh Muslim, hadeeth no. 2664)

Do not forget to seek your parents’ approval, for their du’aa’ for you will be answered. Mention the name of Allaah before you start, for mentioning the name of Allaah is prescribed when beginning any permissible action; this brings blessing, and seeking the help of Allaah is one of the means of strength.

Fear Allaah with regard to your classmates, and do not be affected by their anxiety or fear just before the exam, for anxiety is a contagious disease. Instead, make them feel optimistic by saying good words as prescribed in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was optimistic when he heard the name of Suhayl (which means “easy”) and he said: “Things have been made easy for you.” If something is too difficult for you, then pray to Allaah to make it easy for you.

Choose a good place to sit during the exam, if you can. Keep your back straight, and sit on the chair in a healthy manner. Look over the exam first. Read the questions carefully, noting the important words and dividing one’s time between the questions.

Accept the will and decree of Allaah and do not fall prey to frustration and despair. Remember the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “If anything befalls you, do not say, ‘If only I had done such and such.’ Rather say, ‘Qadar Allaah wa maa sha’a kaan (the decree of Allaah and what He wills happened),’ for saying ‘if only’ opens the door for the Shaytaan.” (Saheeh Muslim, and the first part of this hadeeth was mentioned above).

The Healthy, Dead & Sick (heart)

The Healthy Heart

On the Day of Resurrection, only those who come to God with a healthy heart will be saved. God says:

“The Day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to God a sound heart.” [26:88-89]

In defining the healthy heart, the following has been said: “It is a heart cleansed from any passion that challenges what God commands, or disputes what He forbids. It is free from any impulses which contradict His good. As a result, it is safeguarded against the worship of anything other than Him, and seeks the judgment of no other except that of His Messenger (pbuh). Its services are exclusively reserved for God, willingly and lovingly, with total reliance, relating all matters to Him, in fear, hope, and sincere dedication. When it loves, its love is in the way of God. If it detests, it detests in the light of what He detests. When it gives, it gives for God. If it withholds , it withholds for God. Nevertheless, all this will not suffice for its salvation until it is free from following, or taking as its guide, anyone other than His Messenger (pbuh). A servant with a healthy heart must dedicate it to its journeys end and not base his actions and speech on those of any other person except God’s Messenger (pbuh). He must not give any precedence to any other faith, words or deeds over those of God and His Messenger. God says:

“O you who have attained to faith! Do not put yourselves forward in the presence of [what] God and His Apostle [may have ordained], but remain conscious of God: for, verily, God is all-hearing, all-knowing! ” [49:1]

The Dead Heart

This is the opposite of the healthy heart. It does not know its Lord and does not worship Him as He commands, in the way which He likes, and with which He is pleased. It clings instead to its lust and desires, even if these are likely to incur God’s displeasure and wrath. It worships things other than God, and its love and its hatreds, and its giving and its withholding, arise from its whims, which are of paramount importance to it and preferred above the pleasure of God. Its whims are its imam. Its lust is its guide. Its ignorance is its leader. Its crude impulses are its impetus. It is immersed in its concern with worldly objectives. It is drunk with its own fancies and its love for hasty, fleeting pleasures. It is called to God and the akhira [day of judgment] from a distance but it does not respond to advice, and instead it follows any scheming, cunning Shaytan [Satan]. Life angers and pleases it, and passion makes it deaf and blind to anything except what is evil. To associate and keep company with the owner of such a heart is to tempt illness, living with him is like taking poison, and befriending him means utter destruction.

The Sick Heart

This is a heart with life in it as well as illness. The former sustains it at one moment, the latter at another, and it follows whichever one of the two manages to dominate it. It has love for God, faith in Him, sincerity towards Him, and reliance upon Him, and these are what give it life. It also has a craving for lust and pleasure, and prefers them and strives to experience them. It is full of self-admiration, which can lead to its own destruction. It listens to two callers: one calling it to God and His Prophet and the Hereafter; and the other calling it to the fleeting pleasures of this world. It responds to whichever one of the two happens to have most influence over it at the time. The first heart is alive, submitted to God, humble, sensitive, and aware; the second is brittle and dead; the third wavers between either its safety or its ruin.

Here is a list of 10 things that would not take more than 10 minutes of our time. And if we truly understood the happiness these actions bring in this life and the next, we would spend our life in dedication to these deeds:

10. Pray 2 rakaat (Salatul Duha) anytime after sunrise and before Dhuhr.
Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu said, "My khaleel, Allah's Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam advised me to do three things (1) That I fast 3 days of each month and (2) To pray 2 rakaat of Duha and (3) That I do my witr before sleeping" (Bukhari and Muslim).

9. Pray for RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.

He sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Whoever prays for me once, Allah blesses that person 10 times (because of that prayer)" (Muslim).

8. Repeat what the mu'adhdhin is saying.

Abdullah ibn Amr narrates: A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, the ones that call the people to prayer receive more reward than us."

So Allah's Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam replied, "Say what they say, then when you finish, pray for anything and you shall be given it" (Abu Dawood).

7. Say subhan Allah - How far Allah is from imperfection! –100 times.

Mus'ab ibn Sa'd said: My father told me that he was with Allah's Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam when he remarked, "Does any one of you not have the ability to attain 1000 hasanaat (good deeds) every day? Let him do tasbeeh (Subhan Allah) 100 times and it will be written for him as 1000 hasanaat or 1000 sins will be wiped from his record" (Muslim).

6. Play with your children for the sake of Allah. 5. Make du’a often during times of ease.

RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Whoever it pleases that Allah answer his supplications during times of calamity and hardship, let him increase his supplication amidst the times of ease" (Tirmidhi and Al Hakim).

Bonus: Say the Dhikr after Making Wudu.

RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "If anyone of you, after perfecting his wudu, says, 'Ash hadu an laa ilaaha illAllah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'Abduhu wa Rasooluh (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger), the eight gates of Jannah will open for him and he will be permitted to enter from whichever he wishes" (Muslim).

4. Pick up the phone to call your mother (or a close relative) and tell them that you love them.

RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "The Wasil (One who fulfils the rights of his ties of kinship) is not the one who does good when family members do good (and bad when they are bad). The Wasil is the one who, when family members cut him off he does good to them" (Interpretation of a Bukhari).

3. Take a few minutes to stop and contemplate Allah's amazing creation, of your eyes, voice, and entire body.

Allah says in the Qur'an:
And on the earth are signs for the certain (in faith) /And in yourselves, will you not see (and contemplate) (Az-Zariyat 51/20-21)

2. Share a part of your lunch with someone.

RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Oh Abu Dharr! If you cook any soup, increase its water and then look to your neighbors and give them some of it" (Muslim).

1. Make du'a for your brother in his absence.

RasulAllah sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, “If a person prays for his (or her) brother in their absence (without them knowing), an angel (hears the du'a) and replies, ‘Ameen! And may Allah give you the same’”(Ahmad, Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi).

When One Wakes up in the Morning...

There is no need for special conditions for someone to start thinking. From the moment we wake up in the morning, plenty of opportunities for thought lie before us.

It is He Who made the night a cloak for you and sleep a rest, and He made the day a time for rising. (Surat al-Furqan: 47)

First of all, our being able to wake up in the morning is a great miracle. Despite having lost consciousness entirely, in the morning we recover consciousness and our personalities. The heart beats, we are able to breathe, talk and see. In fact, when we go to sleep, there is no guarantee that these favors will be returned to us in the morning. Nor have we met any disasters during the night. For example, the absent-mindedness of a neighbor could cause a gas leakage and great explosion during the night could have woken us. A catastrophe could have occurred in the region where we lived and we could have lost our lives.

We could have had other problems with our bodies; for example, we could have woken up with severe pains in the kidneys or with a headache. Yet, none of these happened and we have woken up safe and sound. Thinking on all of this, we thank Allah for His mercy and protection.

Starting a new day in good health means Allah's giving us another chance to achieve more for the Hereafter.

My Lord, keep me thankful for the blessing You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and keep me acting rightly, pleasing You, and admit me, by Your mercy, among Your righteous slaves. (Surat an-Naml: 19)

Every year NPMSS will have a new batch of excos that will bring in new ideas, programmes as well as knowledge. In addition, they will be the one to lead Muslims in NP to become better dynamic Muslims.

So we need all of you to vote for the new group of leaders that you think has the capability of guiding and making a change in NPMSS.

The nomination slips are available at our cluster at Blk 71, Cluster 5.

For those who have questions on the terms in the forms, below are some guidelines:

Nomination slip is for nominating someone you think seems promising and has the potential to lead.
Self-nomination slip is for nominating yourself to be part of the next exco. Please do so if you think you have the potential, commitment and competence, because there is nothing like interest that comes sincerely from your own heart.
Filling up of the forms:

Candidate: This is to be filled up with the nominated person's particulars
Declaration of Proposer: This is to be filled up with the particulars of the person nominating the candidate.
Declaration of Seconder: This is to be filled up with the particulars of the witness of this nomination. This section need not necessarily be filled up, but it is better if you do so we know this is a valid nomination.

The closing date for nomination will be on 23rd November 09.

So please do take a minute to write the name of the person you believe is qualified to run in the election. Filled up forms can be put in the box provided.

Allhamdulillah, we are now entering the early part of Ramdhan. Hope everyone is doing better in this Month than the last ramadhan that we did. Allahumma ameen!

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيۡڪُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِڪُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil). (Al Baqarah: 183)

"من صام رمضان ايمانا وحتسابا غفرله ما تقدم من ذنبه."

"Whoever Fast in the Month of Ramdhan with faith and expecting reward from Allah, he will gain forgiveness for all his past sin.(Hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)"
